Canon IPF780/785 Settings for MAC OSX 10.X PDF printing landscape 24 x 36 D-size

Canon IPF780/IPF785/IPF780MFP/IPF785MFP Settings for MAC OSX 10.X PDF printing landscape 24" x 36" D-Size PDF prints.

Canon Driver version 4.01 – released 12/17/14
Specific issue was 24 x 36 (d-size) PDF drawings would not print in “landscape” on 36” media. The prints would print out portrait or cut off at 24" wide on a  36" paper roll.

Here are the steps we took to alleviate the issue:

1. Create custom paper size 36 x 24 in "page setup" in Acrobat Reader before moving to "print" dialoge box..  Make note to create the custom size so that the “width” is 36 inches and the length is 24”.

2.  In the MAC print dialog box, browse to the pull down “main” and browse to “advanced” settings.  Ensure that “Fast Graphic Process” is unchecked.  A preset can be saved within the dialoge box so that this setting does not need to be toggled for each and every PDF print.

3. Choose “auto rotate and center” on the “Copies and Pages” pull down.

4. With print preview turned on, hit print and take a look at the previewed output.  The drawing should be full size 36” wide with a cut line at 24”.  If the print preview image is not correct – click on “output settings” in the pull down menu on the upper right area of the print preview window.  Ensure that “enlarge / reduce printing” is unchecked.   On our MAC, the “default” setting was to check “enlarge / reduce printing” – this resulted in a scaled image that was nowhere near the proper 24” x 36” page size – it also caused the print preview to display an output size of 36” x 36” even though in most cases the print was scaled down to around 15” x 21”.   Once this setting was changed, it “stuck” so that for the next print, it did not need to be toggled.
